Syndication is kewl...
OK, so I'm a late bloomer. When my friend Clay and everyone else was marveling over Kenny's endless bouts with death and Mr. Hanky, I was just not interested. But this year, South Park struck a resonant chord with me. That and it went into syndication. Syndication is very kewl...because once something is in syndication, they show it all over the place, numerous times and numerous episodes. It's immediate gratification. You don't have to wait a week to see a new episode. Every episode is new. And even though I've heard ad nauseum the constant pop culture references, it's still interesting to me. Why? Well.
- Creativity. A simple cartoon, a simple method of putting forth complex ideas. Construction paper and deconstruction of political and social entities. How cool is that?
- The expressions. Both on their faces and out of their mouths. One of my favorite sequences is the back-and-forth between Cartman and his dirty slut mom when he's hoping she'll 'get it' and not make him ask the question. No words...just looks.
- Generous and appropriate use of the terms 'asshole' and 'fatass'. Creative variations thereof.
- The idea that you can do something as simple as create little round-headed entities that do things like try to poop out their mouths and get paid a helluva lot of money for it. Sweet!!
So there's this kewl little site I ran across with a little flash app that lets you create new characters in "South Park" style. Click here to see and use it. My alter-ego is shown below. I don't know what to call her yet. "Feathers" keeps popping into my mind. Light and fluffy? For the birds? I don't know.
Amateur Radio
Not much to say here yet... but I'm Reading About It. This brings me back to the good old days when I was running around with a CB in my car and harassing truck drivers. Slightly different though. This newest obsession is in response to the recent weather happenings in my neck of the woods. I want to learn how to be spotter. More later.
